Andre's obituary
Andre Marquis (1963-2025) was a loving partner, dedicated father, and affectionate friend to many.
Andre was the CEO of Hypershift Systems, the former Executive Director of the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship at U.C. Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, founder of the Innovation Acceleration Group at U.C. Berkeley, and a serial entrepreneur with a track record of startups with initial public offerings and acquisitions. Prior to U.C. Berkeley, Andre co-founded the Chorus Group at Eli Lilly, where he pioneered agile business processes for successful drug development programs. After college Andre worked on the Human Genome Project and at Harvard Medical School, but he always credited his high school job working in the Nuclear Physics Lab at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) as one of his most formative experiences.
Outside of work, Andre enjoyed going for walks and runs, reading about his wide array of interests (especially new technology), brewing coffee, traveling with his partner, and spending time with his loved ones. His intellectual curiosity led him to read about many topics ranging from books about the pre-Columbian histories of Mexico and Peru to the latest in Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence.
Andre touched many lives. He pushed and lovingly prodded so many to do so very many good and great things. Having lived it, he shared his entrepreneurial experience with so much exuberance and empathy that the thousands of entrepreneurs he worked with all around the world -- China, Thailand, Australia, Brazil, Peru, Germany, France, Canada, US, really, almost every other country-- were buoyed by his support. He was a true believer in the creativity and ingenuity of enterprise. Simply put: he inspired people.
Andre is survived by his partner, Thorina Rose, his three children Catherine Marquis, Zeno Marquis, and Hugo Marquis, his mother Diana Marquis, and two sisters Linda Marquis and Heather Marquis. Andre is also mourned by his many, many friends throughout the world.
