Amy's obituary
Amy Claire Richards passed away on August 17th at the age of 63.
Amy grew up in Vienna, VA and graduated from Oakton HS in 1979. After high school, she immediately entered the work force, spending several years working at the Pentagon before stepping away to focus on her family. Later, Amy returned to her education three times, earning her Associate’s Degree from NOVA, and her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from George Mason University.
Amy spent more than 20 years working for Loudoun County Public Schools in different roles including lunch room attendant, office secretary, and as a teacher in the Special Education department. After her retirement in 2023 she found a new passion volunteering for political causes and working with the USO.
Amy was known for always showing up for her people. When her children were growing up, she made it a priority to be present for every single school and extracurricular activity, even when they conflicted with each other. For her friends and family, she was always ready and willing to for a quick chat or to catch up for hours. She had a knack for making friends everywhere she went, some even referred to her as the “mayor of Loudoun County”.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading and traveling the United States, making it to all 50 state capitals and most of the National Parks.
She is survived by her children, Tim, Kevin, and Jenn, as well as her partner of 23 years, Rick Munsey, and their seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Evelyn Gouge, and her brother Jimmy Gouge.
