Amy's obituary

Amy Owen, 56, of sunny Tucson, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on June 29, after a brief illness.

Amy was born in October 1965 to Rose Marie (Maloy) and the late John J. Laughlin in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Amy grew up in Edgewood / Regent Square and went on to graduate from Woodland Hills High School in 1984.

During a summer trip to Arizona in 1998, Amy met David Owen, and it was love at first sight. She relocated to Tucson and they began a beautiful love story that lasted the rest of her life. Amy was a dedicated and loving wife to David. They shared 23 amazing years of marriage together, creating a blended family filled with so much laughter, love, and children.

Amy’s family was her entire world. She was a caring and dedicated daughter to Rose Marie. She adored her younger sister Meribeth and her three nieces. She loved her friends, and enjoyed her dogs. Her greatest joy in life was being a mom to her girls and a “Noonie” to her grandson. Family came first and above all else to Amy. She loved hard and fiercely, and she lived every day for the ones she loved.

Amy had a long career at American Airlines, of which she was very proud. Many of her coworkers became lifelong friends of hers. In 2020, she retired after 22 years to devote her time to her family.

Amy enjoyed nights out at the casino, tending to her flowers, going on daily coffee runs with her daughters, relaxing by the pool, laughing with friends, and more than anything, spending time playing with her grandson. Amy was the life and heartbeat of her family, the glue that held everyone together, and the giant hole left by her absence will be impossible to fill.

Amy was preceded in death by her father, John J. Laughlin. She is survived by her husband, David Owen; her mother, Rose Marie Laughlin; her children Megan Wadding, Brenna Wadding, Kennedy Owen; her step-children Skyler Owen, and Christian Owen; her beloved grandson, Owen Cooley; her sister, Meribeth (Thomas) Ford, her nieces Shannon Ford, Rachel Ford, and Erin Ford; her best friends Leslie Ackerman and Barbara Weatherwax, as well as numerous family members, close friends, and co-workers who all loved her so much.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 16 at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church (718 Franklin Avenue, Wilkinsburg) in her hometown of Pittsburgh.
