Amy's obituary
Amelia McDonald Grant (Amy) passed away peacefully just after midnight on Saturday, April 8 2023 after a long and difficult battle with ALS.
She was born on June 30, 1979 to Larry and Chris McDonald in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Jeffrey Grant on December 13, 2002 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Amy was a friend to everyone she knew. She suffered with anxiety and depression for most of her life. This gave her the ability to have empathy and compassion for those that were struggling. She delighted to reach out with love to anyone she felt needed encouragement or help.
She was amazing at any type of craft she worked on. She had an eye for detail that showed in everything she did from scrapbooks to blankets to diamond art, and anything else she worked on.
Amy was an amazing Aunt to her nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was being with children, and that showed in her relationships with her family. From the time she was young she wanted to be a mom and take care of children.
Despite that desire for children, Amy dealt with infertility issues for 12 years before finally being able to get pregnant. Her joy in having the chance to be a mom was overwhelming. Sadly, her baby boy Logan was stillborn at 25 weeks. Though this was one of the most difficult things she ever went through, it didn’t stop her desire to have children. A year later she and Jeff began the adoption process and a year after that were able to adopt Mirinda from Mumbai, India. A few years later they were able to adopt Priya from Nagpur, India.
Amy loved being a mom to those two little girls. She loved to cuddle them and take them to try new things. She loved to take them to Disneyland and Lagoon. Even towards the end of her life the one thing that could make her smile was her girls. She loved to bring them candy and small gifts to show her love to them because she couldn’t express it in the way she wanted to. Even on the last day of her life, she wanted to watch her girls dance to songs that were playing and turned her wheelchair to watch them. In death she is still watching over them, and wanted to make sure that her girls never forgot her.
Amy loved to serve in the temple and in her church callings. Her favorite calling was to be a primary chorister. She also loved serving as the Young Women’s President and watched over those Young Women as if they were her own.
Amy had an amazing voice. She was a Madrigal at Taylorsville High School and always loved to sing. She was always ready to perform and to show her testimony of the Savior through music.
She will be deeply missed. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. There are so many people who have had their lives touched and are better because they knew Amy. She knew who she was and knew that she was a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father. She knew her Savior lived and was real. She followed him throughout her life and never missed an opportunity to testify of Him with words or music.
Towards the end of her life, as the ALS had taken much of her body and the dementia had taken much of her mind, she still wanted to give whatever she could. She loved Peach Fresca, and anyone who came to visit her was going to leave with a can of it. She wanted to give all her life, and at the end of her life this is what she could give. She gave until the very end because she wanted to show her love for others.
We will always love and miss Amy. We look forward to the day when we can see her again, free from the pain and confusion that this terrible disease caused. Her loss is a void that won’t be fully made up for in this life but will be in the next life because of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amy was survived by her spouse Jeffrey, her daughters Mirinda and Priya, her parents Larry and Chris, and siblings Amanda (Mike), Heath, Eden (Travis), Nate (Nicole), Jordan (Shawntel), Hyrum (Anne Marie), Richard (Taegan), JoEllen (Alex) and Emily (Kevin) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Amy was preceded in death by her son Logan. She is with him now and is so happy to have him again.
