Amos's obituary

On Thursday, May 20th, 2021, Amos Gibson, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 32. The world became a better place on August 13, 1988, when Amos was born to Donna and Greg Gibson. Amos was nothing short of an amazing person. Between his time at Chick-fil-A and Oaklawn Children’s center, he created a lasting impression on everyone he came in contact with. On July 13, 2019, he made the best decision of his life by marrying his wife, Jalysa Gibson. Together they began sharing how to be a great human with his step-daughter, Naomie McDonald.

Amos had a passion for people. He was the strongest advocate for equity and, as someone who rose from the ashes of trauma, created a better world for those he loved deeply. He cared most about uplifting the village he helped create. He wanted his closest people to know their worth and he reminded them best after a few shots of his favorite drink, Fireball. With his wife, he was most focused on creating stability. Together they created a business that will now help sustain his wife and daughter through his passing. He was most known for his quick wit, unmatched humor, and the infectious joy brought on through his laughter and smile. The world is a bit dimmer without his presence but he wouldn’t want us to dwell on the hurt. The best way for us all to memorialize him is to do better and be better. Amos would want us all to remember to rest, take time to do something you love every day, chase after your dreams and never give up, and to always stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. If his passing has taught us one thing it’s that we don’t have time. Live every moment to the fullest. His last Facebook post stated, “I’m done wasting. I want everything. #AllInOnLife” This should be our new motto.

Amos was preceded in death by his sister Ruby. He is survived by his wife Jalysa, step-daughter Naomie, niece Hazel, mother and father Donna and Greg, and his six siblings Solomon, Isha, Jubilee, Isaac, Zinnia, and Rosie. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 12, 2021 at the Kingdom Impact Church 2201 Toledo Rd, Elkhart, IN 46516. Visitation hours will be from 12pm to 1pm and the Service will be from 1pm to 2pm.
