Amelia's obituary

Amelia Hoerle, age 95, went home to be with our Lord on January 1, 2020. Amelia was born on October 9, 1924, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late James and Mary Carr. She graduated from St. Rosalia Academy in 1942 and was recruited shortly thereafter by J&L Steel Corporation where she worked for ten years. It was at J&L where she met the love of her life, the late William (Bill) Hoerle. They married in 1948 and raised their children in Pittsburgh until Bill’s retirement from J&L in 1971, when they moved their family to Daytona Beach, FL. There Amelia found great satisfaction in her positions at Streep’s Music store and then Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC) where she served as the Assistant Cultural Coordinator. She especially enjoyed the DBCC theater and mentoring students. Amelia and Bill spent their final years in the Clearwater, FL area. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage until Bill’s passing in 2001.

Amelia will be remembered as a loving mother who encouraged her children to pursue their goals and dreams; for her wisdom and ability to counsel others; her quick wit and ability to make others laugh; her delicious Sunday pot roast dinners; her amazing lasagna recipe; her love of all things chocolate; and for the strength and courage demonstrated as she dealt with years of pain.

Amelia is dearly missed by her devoted children, Bill (Renee) Hoerle of Stuart, FL; Doug (Jennifer) Hoerle, of Safety Harbor, FL; Michelle (Scott) Tanner, of Winter Garden, FL, and Bob (Dolly) Hoerle, of Morgantown, W.VA. Amelia was a loving sister to Agnes Seltmann, and the late Ruthie Carr, Jayne Hunt, Jake Carr, and Catherine Connelly. Amelia is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Justin, Martyr Catholic Church, 10851 Ridge Road, Seminole, FL, on February 29, at 11:00 AM. There will be a reception following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amelia’s memory to Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760, Attn: Purple Team.
