Amelia Jean "Jean" Barthel (née Dilks)
Amelia Jean "Jean" Barthel (née Dilks), 89, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on October 9, 2020, in Baltimore, MD. She was born on July 3, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late George and Daisy Dilks.
Jean was a strong woman who embodied the essence of women empowerment long before it became a popular term. She was known for her unwavering strength, grace, and dignity, traits she instilled in her daughters. Jean was a proud Baltimore native who celebrated her natural grit and strength.
In her career, Jean managed an A&P grocery store for 30 years, where she met her husband, Phil Barthel, a produce truck driver. Together, they ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing a successful Yellow Taxicab service and service station in downtown Baltimore.
During her retirement, Jean indulged in her hobbies, spending summers at her Ocean City beach house, cheering for the Baltimore Ravens as a season ticket holder, and enjoying watching the Baltimore Orioles and Nascar races.
Jean is survived by her loving children Sandra Jean Dilks Pyle (Ken), Janice Amelia Devese Bertrum (Dave), Sharlene Gayle Devese Robinson (Andre),
7 grandchildren, K Michael Pyle, Joshua M Pyle, Marin D Ellis, Michelle D Holcombe, Jason DelGuidice, Nicholas Robinson, and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park on Monday, March 25, 2024.
