Amanda's obituary

Amanda Marie Norton, beloved wife, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend passed away on April 16, 2024, at the age of 41 in Phoenix, Arizona, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was born on January 13, 1983, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Amanda's life was a testament to dedication and passion, particularly in the realm of education. As a devoted English Teacher with the Tolleson Union High School District and later with the Dysart Unified School District, she poured her heart and soul into shaping young minds at La Joya Community High School, Sierra Linda High School, and Shadow Ridge High School. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, as she also served as a beacon of encouragement and guidance to her students as a swim and track coach. Her commitment to excellence was recognized with accolades such as the Tolleson Employee of the Month in 2015 and the esteemed Dysart Hero Award in 2022.

A lover of literature, Amanda's passion for learning was infectious. She found solace and joy within the pages of Shakespearean classics. Beyond her professional pursuits, Amanda found joy in crafting, particularly with sewing and crocheting, where she could transform simple materials into expressions of creativity and love.

Amanda is survived by her loving husband, Trevor Norton and their fur baby Worf, her devoted mother, Nanette Barr; her father, Ted Ramirez; her brother, Brian Ramirez, his wife Sara, and their children Hannah and Alexander; She is further survived by her husband’s parents, Scott and Ruth Norton; her brother-in-law Zach, his wife Kateri, and her sister-in-law, Lacey, and her husband, Brian. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Amanda was preceded in death by her grandmother, Clara Ramirez, and her grandparents Bob and Thelma Barr.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mayo Clinic, Hospice of the Valley, and the American Cancer Society.

Amanda's absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family, friends, colleagues, and students. Her legacy as an exceptional educator, compassionate mentor, and caring soul will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Aleppo Park in Litchfield Park, Arizona at 11am on May 5th, 2024.
