Amanda's obituary

Remembering the Unforgettable Light of Amanda Lynn Smith

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Amanda Lynn Smith on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the age of 33.

Born on May 18, 1992, in West Virginia and a resident of Newark, Delaware, Amanda was the undeniable light of her family. She possessed a rare gift for making people smile, for breaking the silence with a quick joke, and for lifting the spirits of everyone she met. Her presence was a source of comfort and laughter, and that is how she will be remembered most.

Amanda’s greatest pride and deepest love were reserved for her three children, Christopher, Zachary, and Nevaeh, who were the center of her universe.

Amanda also faced immense personal battles with courage. She fought the disease of addiction, alongside other illnesses, with a strength that will not be forgotten. While this struggle was a part of her life, it did not define the vibrant, loving, and deeply caring person she was. Her family chooses to remember her beautiful spirit and the immeasurable joy she brought into their lives.

She leaves behind a large and loving family who will carry her memory forward: her devoted mother, Elizabeth Shinn; her cherished children, Christopher, Zachary, and Nevaeh; and her beloved siblings, Sandra, Randall, Melissa, Anthony Joseph, Jaclyn, and Carissa. She was the fun-loving aunt to her nieces, Evalina, Aaliyah, Shelby, Machara, and Harlynne, and her nephews, Liam, Benjamin, Landon, Dream, Bleux, and Baby Joey. She is also survived by her aunts, Tina, Jeanne, Bonnie Jean, Brandy, and Charlene; her uncle, Mike; and a close-knit group of cousins: Lauren, Michael, Nicholas, Brandon, Little Hal, Danielle, Alyssa, and Madison.

Amanda is now at peace, reunited with those who passed before her: her father, John Smith; her grandmothers, Barbara and Bonnie Burmylo; her grandfathers, Stanley Burmylo and Harold Shinn Sr.; and her uncles, Harold Shinn Jr., Matthew Masino, Keith and Brian Smith.

Memorial services to honor Amanda’s life are pending at this time. The family will update everyone with the necessary information to attend and say a final goodbye. If you wish to assist with the costs of her memorial, donations to her fund are the most helpful way to show your support during this difficult time.

Amanda's time with us was far too short, but the light she cast will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
