Al's obituary
Alvin Otis Weesner, better known as "Al," (91) passed into the loving arms of Jesus on September 21, 2025, in Henderson, Nevada. A devoted man of faith, Al lived a life marked by service—to his country, his family, and his calling.
Born May 14, 1934, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Al was the son of Orval E. Weesner and Juanita Mae Weesner (Vail). After graduating high school, Al served honorably in the United States Navy October 13, 1953 to September 2, 1958. During the Korean War era, he held the rank of PH3 and served under the Commandant of the Fourth Naval District as a Class P Airman and Class A Photo Mate. For his service, he received both the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, culminating in an honorable discharge.
Following his military service, he answered the call to ministry and pursued theological education at Eastern Bible College in Green Lane, Pennsylvania. This is also where he met his beloved wife of 65 years, Beverly. His deep commitment to scripture and spiritual leadership would guide him throughout his life. He pastored Assemblies of God churches in Massachusetts and Maryland and served as a traveling evangelist.
In his mid-life, Al embarked on a long and distinguished career as a truck driver with CR England Trucking Company. Over the years behind the wheel, he achieved an extraordinary milestone—over three million accident-free miles—a testament to his dedication and professionalism. He was also passionate about sharing the gospel and ministering to other truckers along the way.
In more recent years, he continued his ministry as a Messages of Faith Ministry (MOFM) Chaplain and teacher with the International Church of Las Vegas (ICLV), mentor with Hope for Prisoners, The Healing Room of Henderson, and other local ministries. His love for scripture inspired him to write Biblical books, sermons, and commentaries that reflected his deep understanding and unwavering faith.
Al’s personal life was rich with love and laughter. He was known for telling stories and jokes that brought joy to those around him. Photography was another passion—he captured moments both ordinary and profound through his lens. Whether behind a pulpit or behind a camera, Al had a gift for seeing beauty in life’s details.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Beverly Jean Weesner (Huff); daughter Valerie Dawn Collins (Johnnie) of Ohio; son Vance Douglas Weesner (Na Soo Yeol) of South Korea; granddaughters Cherise Rebman (Sean) of California and Vanessa Weesner of Texas; grandsons VaRyan Weesner of Texas, Adrian Wakeen of Alaska, Aaron Wakeen of Ohio, and Dayne Martinez; great-granddaughter Samantha Rebman of California; sister Norma Yoho of Iowa; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and many beloved special friends, who became “family.” (Special recognition of those now caring for Beverly, Larry & Joann Hamilton and Katherine Kessler)
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Juanita Weesner; granddaughter VaLisha Weesner; brothers Elden Weesner (Dorothy) and Gordon Weesner (Charlotte); and sister Sharon Stitt (David).
May Al Weesner’s legacy continue to inspire all who knew him through his unwavering faith, enduring love for family, and steadfast commitment to serving others.
