Alvin was born on February 26, 1928, in Chelan Washington. He was the fifth of seven children. Merell, Grace, Kenneth, Anna(Lucille), Norma Jean, and Shirley shared his childhood.
During his time on earth, he was a proud father to eight children Norma Krueger (Ben), Alvin the third (Shirley), Arthur, Susan Winter, David, Timothy (Cheryl), Stuart, and Robert. As his children became adults they began having children of their own. In total he had fourteen grandchildren and six bonus (step) grandchildren Charles Stevens, Alyssa Stormer, Kristine Phillips, Michael Dishman, Julie Greer, Amy Fite, David Thompson Jr., Brandie Cyr, Levi Schauman, Rachell Shaw, Jennifer Cole, Misty Thompson, Robert Thompson Jr., and Gabe Thompson, Shana Bunn, Angela Spiegel, Shawnee Conca, Michael Conca, Stephanie Walker, and Ricky Walker. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a loving husband to Maxine for 66 years and is survived by his wife Sharon with whom he had five stepchildren. Alvin had many nieces and nephews that he also enjoyed spending time with.
He was a 1946 graduate of Lake Stevens High School. After high school he worked in the sawmill industry, and he retired from Scott Paper Company in Everett Washington. He enjoyed a long peaceful retirement.
Alvin enjoyed many years of large family gatherings, camping, traveling and hiking with his family. As a young boy he started collecting stamps and marbles. His other hobbies included reading western books, metal detecting, coin collecting, rock collecting, playing cards and antique collecting which included several types of old relics. He was an avid Christian and a member of the United Methodist Church in Bow.
He and his family spent many years camping at their “lot” on blue lake in Eastern Washington where many fond memories were made. He also enjoyed camping and family gatherings down in Lake Stevens at the families’ “river property”.
Throughout the years he could frequently be found logging up in the hills. He always had plenty of wood to keep the house warm in the winter months. Many members of the family spent time with him on his trips to get firewood. He spoke fondly of his time spent logging with his brother Kenneth.
Alvin will be remembered for his stories of sawmill work, rockhounding, picking apples in Wenatchee with his dad, hiking in the hills, and his undying love of his family. He enjoyed getting a good laugh by playing practical jokes on family and friends. There was always a warm welcome to be found a the Thompson house.
A special heartfelt thank you from the family for the care from hospice that allowed him to stay comfortable in his home prior to his reunion with loved ones already in heaven.
Memorial Services will be held on May 20th at 1:00pm at the United Methodist Church in Bow. There will be a lunch/dinner after the service.
