Alvin's obituary
Alvin Comechio Collins passed away on April 11, 2024. Alvin was the 5th of 10 children born to the late Calvin Glenn Collins and Marjorie Elizabeth Magathen Collins. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
He delighted in humor and instructing his younger brothers and sisters on effective strategies for survival. His antics in class caused him to find himself in the principal's office at school. With his cousin the former Michael Enoch, he joined the United States Army. During his tour of duty, Alvin spent a couple of years in Hawaii. When he returned home, Alvin sought out Dr. Stephen T. Chang, an internationally well-known master and scholar in Eastern and Western Medicine, to study and to begin the process of strengthening his body. He studied Martial Arts at Cascos Martial Arts. He mastered several levels of karate and attained the rank of black belt.
Guided by Dr. Chang, Al was an ardent student of Internal Exercises and The Great Tao. He became a vegetarian for some time and shared his knowledge with family members.
Alvin loved God. He was an active member of Bible's Way COGIC under the late Bishop Larry Magathen and served as a licensed Street Evangelist.
Al studied at Laney College and took flying lessons in pursuit of his dream to become a pilot.
Alvin married Antoinette Jackson and together they reared their seven children.
He worked as a security guard at Eastmont Mall for 12 years and at Timec as a pipe fitter for the Standard Oil Refinery. He also thought of himself as a trend setter with hats, outfits, colors, hair cut styles. Al loved music, dancing, singing, doing the robot, and getting into mischief!
Alvin is survived by his wife Antoinette, daughters Melissa, Chia, Junette, Lisa and sons Alvin Jr, Anthony, and Emmanuel and their spouses and children (13 grandchildren); brother John Collins, sisters Gwendolyn Mitchell, Aleatha Alston, Melodie Johnson, Gladys Collins and their spouses and children: Uncle Melvin Enoch, Aunt Carrie McGathon and a host of cousins. He will be missed.
