Alton's obituary
Alton "Shorty" Griffin, 76, of Adger, AL passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Shorty grew up in Omega, GA, and after many travels he settled and made a life in Adger, AL a town he loved and never left. Shorty was a long standing member of John's Baptist Church; he worked as a Union Pipefitter/Welder for 40+ years before retiring. And to many of his family we feel his greatest achievement was his sobriety of 24 years this past April. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, watching football, and absolutely any activity including his grandchildren. Shorty will be always remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, and he will be truly missed by all.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Elah Alton Griffin, as well as his sister Lavern Franks. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Gail Bailey Griffin, his children Jeanene (Derick) Wolfe of Columbus, GA; Alton (Sonya) Griffin of Gainesville, FL; Heather (Jeremy) Jordan and Henry (Shannon) Griffin both of Adger, his sister Shirley Knight of GA, four brothers Tommy(Shelby) of Tifton, GA; Randall of Alabama; Jack(Diane) of Pt St Lucy, FL; Shelton(Sue) of Tallahassee, FL; and a countless supply of nieces and nephews. Shorty also has 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and one on the way scattered throughout the Southern United States. Shorty has requested to be cremated, and a celebration of life be held in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Shorty’s loved ones to join us in celebrating his life at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home, Friday July 15, 2022, friends and family visit from 1-2pm, with the service to be preformed by Brother David Lawrence immediately following.
