Pastor Davis was our pastor at Main Street Baptist during my college years. When I graduated in 1967, Bob and I chose to be married at the home church on August 25, 1967 with a close friend of his Pastor Les Ollila who pastored our church in SC where we attended Bob Jones University performing the ceremony. Pastor Davis was very gracious about this choice. Bob n I have served the Lord in churches across America and on the mission field. I had not heard of your father’s homegoing. We will see him again if our faith and trust is in Jesus for our salvation.  Thank you for sharing him with many others. God bless you as you grieve this great loss. Matthew 5:4.

I just found out that Alton died!

I truly loved Alton.  I worked for him at Davis Car Wash.  I worked for him when he ran for congress.  I still have my Davis For Congress button.  He married me and my wife.  All the workers at Davis Car Wash, including me, had a crush of Julie.  The most angry I ever saw Francis was when she came into the wash one day and witnessed me teaching Philip how to read the racing form.

When I came back from Africa Alton set me up with a dentist to save my teeth.  He even arranged with the dentist for me to pay him a little bit weekly.  Alton truly cared about people.

Mike, Julie, Philip you had a great father and mother.

Alton with his booming voice and twinkling eyes lit up the room.  He was so kind and loving   My dad, Wendell, has always told the best stories of Alton.  The favorite story being the raft on the Mississippi River with your dad singing and playing the piano!  A true blessing in this world.  Heavens choir  will be a lot more fun now that he has joined!  Sending love and prayers to Michael, Julie, and Philip and families.  🙏

Alton was a blessing to our family and my parents as he ministered at Main Street. He was an impetus to building the new sanctuary which was completed in 1970. A beautiful pipe organ was installed and still remains in that sanctuary.

He married over 17  couples that summer in the sanctuary.

Many went on to attend  Oakland City University and serve their communities as teachers and pastors.

Alton was like another father to me. Rhonda and I know he is in heaven with all his friends and and family. We were blessed to have him as our Pastor and friend and to married us at the church of the Cross. We Love you all.
