( Nita)'s obituary
Howell, Mi - Altha Juanita Casler (Nita, Bunny) of Howell, MI passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on January 30. Nita was 96 years old.
Born in Nelson, Kentucky in 1926 to David S. and Martha Evangeline Hamm, Nita moved to Detroit, MI when she was 10 years old. Nita remained in Michigan after her marriage to Neil T. Casler in 1945. Nita was administrative secretary in the Wayne-Westland school district in Michigan over 20 years. She began her career at Norris Elementary School in Wayne, MI and after 5 years, transferred to Wayne Memorial High School in Wayne, MI. Administrators, faculty and students would routinely seek out Nita for advice, guidance, counsel and many times just as a compassionate person who would listen to them.
Throughout her life, Nita loved to sing. First with family and friends then for many years as a member of the Sweet Adelines. Nita later become a member of the Southern Edition trio, entertaining at nursing homes and for many veteran groups. Nita also developed a talent for painting upon retirement. Creating family portraits and beautiful landscapes, Nita would hide her signature little bunny in many of the paintings for her family and friends to find. And when she wasn’t singing or painting, Nita was very a social person, loving to be around family and friends.
Nita had a quick wit, definitely a Hamm in more ways then one and for those who were fortunate enough to know her, were left with the impressions of her presence upon their lives. Nita was one of those unforgettable people that you were privileged to have met on your journey through out life.
