Oumar's obituary

Father, son, husband, brother, friend…Alpha Oumar Diallo was a man loved by many. He passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 6, 2022 at his home in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 54. The music of Oumar’s life began in Berkley, CA on December 2, 1967 when he was born to Erma Eugenia and Alpha Amadou Diallo. He was known for being easy-going and loyal with a smile that lit up a room and put everyone at ease. The words of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds truly encompass his spirit: “Don’t worry about a thing cuz every little thing’s gonna be alright…” He traveled the world with his family but spent most of his adult life in the Maryland-D.C. area; Duncanville, TX; and Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from high school in Athens, Greece and enrolled at Howard University only to decide to pursue his love of music after his first year. Some of the most joyous parts of his life were performing with his bands Word, Oktbrwrld, Coco Boom, and more. Beyond a good bass line and smooth groove, he loved watching football (go Cowboys!), eating great food, and the simple things in life. But the greatest joy of his life came with the birth of his son, Adama Oury. His favorite title was not “bassist” or “artist” but was DAD.

Oumar is survived by his son, Adama; wife, Kimberlee; parents, Alpha and Erma; step-mother, Bintah; siblings, Andrea Yaya, Sallay, Heninstoa, Kadijatu, Aiesata, Erma; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

He was laid to rest in a private ceremony on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the historic Crown Hill Cemetary in Indianapolis, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the United Negro College Fund in his honor.
