Maj. (Ret) Aloysius's obituary
Retired Air Force Major and lifelong educator Aloysius Fredroy Jones, 92, of Poinciana, Florida, passed away on July 15, 2024 from natural causes. Aloysius was born on January 25th, 1932 in Washington D.C. to Beverly Fredroy Jones and Mildred Jones. Aloysius is survived by his spouse Elisabeth Jones, his two daughters Jeanette Jones and Jacqueline Babette Jones-Cieskowski, his grandchildren Katharina Seith, Babette Cieskowski, Arabella Jones, Benicio Jones, and Keanu Cieskowski, and his four great-grandchildren Eyvind and Amaru Jones-Perdomo and Justus and Jonas Seith. Aloysius is survived by his twin brother Alphonso Jones of Altadena, CA and sister Doris Dent of Washington D.C. He was preceded in death by his two sisters Beulah Sutherland and Freida Taylor alongside his brother Robert Jones.
Aloysius studied Art & Design at The University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science in Design (BSD) in 1956. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate fraternity established for African-American men as well as the Knights of Columbus. After earning his degree, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. Aloysius retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1976 as a U.S. Major after serving the U.S. military for 20 years.
Aloysius Jones was a father, a brother, a husband, a cousin, a friend, and an Opa. His memory will be carried throughout future generations, and his legacy is one dedicated to a lifelong love of art, teaching and education, and his generous service to others. He loved being an art teacher and he was well loved by his students. His life and love will continue to be carried within our memories, and he is deeply missed.
Aloysius’ funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10am at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery where he will be given full military honors.
