Almeta's obituary
Born to her (pre- deceased) parents Henry Donnie and Chattie Mae Alston in Carthage, NC. where she grew up until 10 years old surrounded by her large family. Her family relocated to Asbury Park, NJ in 1958. She attended and graduated school in Asbury Park NJ. Proud graduate of A.P.H.S.1966. Her education included several diplomas and accreditations for Human Services.
She then worked for MCAP in NJ and was an activist during the civil rights movement. She attended the "March on Washington" and several other historical events. Her career was one that always put her into positions to help people with career choices, housing, and recreation. One could say she was an activist with her job choices that span many east coast states.
She earned a honorable discharge from U.S. Army in 1980 where she was a weapons expert and MP.
She was known to have fun at the "party", she was the one all the fellas wanted to dance the "swing" with. She enjoyed listening to music - R&B and Gospel, and she loved her soap operas "Young and Restless" and the "Bold and the Beautiful".
Almeta was a feisty young lady, she did not hold back her feelings and had no problem expressing herself. It didn't make her much difference what anyone thought.
She was actively involved with her nieces and nephews, from teaching them to drive to helping them make career choices.
She was the widow of James Simms.
Current partner of Louis Marsh for the last 20 years. Almeta had no children. A lot of nieces and nephews she often referred to as her own.
