Alma's Birthday
I frequently had a tea with Alma, usually sitting at the kitchen table.Sometimes this was after walking Strider, when Amanda and Ross were away and we shared taking care of him.I enjoyed our talks, she was always so informed. One time, (maybe in 2008?) during one of our tea time conversations, she told me she had something for me. She said that I was likely the only one in her life who would appreciate the item, and that she wanted me to have it. It was an old book. I still have it. The title is "Wellington's Men". It is a collection of first person memories from several of the Duke of Wellington's men and their experiences in Portugal and Spain during the Napoleonic wars. Once I had read it we spoke about the details a few times during tea.I will always miss my visits with Alma, not just when the family had gathered, or on frequent visits with Amanda and Ross, but when we shared each others company eating biscuits, chatting and drinking tea.
