Allie's obituary
In Loving Memory of Allie Mae Pitts
Allie Mae Pitts, a woman whose life was defined by love, strength, and unwavering kindness, peacefully transitioned after a remarkable life that touched generations.
She will always be remembered as a woman who radiated warmth, compassion, and genuine love. Those who met her often said she was one of the sweetest people they had ever known—a true reflection of the beautiful spirit she carried throughout her life.
Allie Mae was born to Horace Hoston and Goldie Roberta Williams in Daisy, Georgia. She entered the world alongside her beloved sister, Arnie Dee Houston, and together they began a journey rooted in family, resilience, and faith.
At a young age, Allie faced a heartbreaking loss when her father, Horace, was taken from the family in a tragic act of mistaken identity. Though painful, this moment helped shape the strength, endurance, and quiet resilience that would define her life.
Growing up on a large farm in Daisy, Georgia, Allie and her siblings learned the value of hard work, discipline, and family unity. Life was not always easy, but it was rich in lessons. As a young girl, with very little to her name, she taught herself how to sew—first making clothes for her dolls, and later creating her own garments as a teenager. That determination and creativity became part of who she was.
Seeking more opportunity beyond the small town she called home, Allie made a bold decision after her 18th birthday. Alongside her cousin Roseann, she enlisted in the military—an act of courage that marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
After her time in service, Allie set her sights on a brighter future and made the life-changing decision to move to Miami, Florida, a city filled with opportunity but also challenges. As an African American woman navigating a new environment, she faced obstacles head-on—but her strong work ethic, rooted in her upbringing, carried her through.
During this time, she was joined by her cousins—Effie, Eula, and Clara. Together, they created a bond of support, love, and shared determination. Effie, in particular, stood by her side during one of the most important moments of her life—the birth of her first son, Vernard. The four women lived together, helping one another build a foundation until each could stand on her own. That season of unity became a lasting example of family, loyalty, and strength.
