Allen's obituary

Allen (Al) Dean Sorensen passed away July 30 in Jamestown, ND. Al was born February 13, 1946, to Ervin and Irene (Nelson) Sorensen in Central City, NE. He moved to Grand Island, NE and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1964. He attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, NE. Al served in the United States Army including a deployment to Vietnam.

Following the military Al moved to North Dakota and worked in various financial positions with CIT Financial, Valley Bank and Trust, Altru, and Express Personnel.

Al was a sports enthusiast, and he instilled this love of sports in his son, Branden. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and never missed a chance to attend a UND football, basketball, or hockey game. Any games he wasn’t able to attend he was always watching on tv or listening to on the radio.

Al was inducted into the ND State Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 for his years of meritorious service to the state bowling association. Al also volunteered as a coach and organizer for Special Olympics.

He is survived by his son, Branden (Bri) Sorensen and grandsons Brady and Braxten of Jamestown, ND, brother, Roger (Dee) Sorensen of Johnstown, CO, and Parma (Tom) LaBrie of Grand Island, NE, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Al’s life will be held in Grand Forks, ND at Red Ray Lanes on Saturday September 9th from 2pm to 6pm. A service will also be held for for Al at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE on Saturday September 30th at 11:00am.
