Aida's obituary
Allaida "Aida" Rompies, 83, of Lakewood, CO, peacefully passed away on August 01, 2025 after a much too short battle with cancer.
Aida was born in 1941 in Tehran, Iran. She moved to Switzerland for school at 16 and her traveling life began! Aida lived in four counties and spoke five languages. She could speak them all to different people in the same room!
Aida was an owner/operator of four businesses, all successful! She and husband Fred owned a hair salon in Amsterdam and started a hair salon in Denver where they employed Americans on their quest to become American citizens. Fred and Aida then started Amsterdam Antiques on South Broadway which was a European Antique store on Antique Row in Denver. When antiques lost their value, they made another change to open Doggie Delights On Broadway in December 2006 in the same location. This store is still in operation in the Platt Park area, now owned and operated by thier son, Tom.
Aida's only son Tom Rompies resides in Littleton with his wife Trish and daughter Natalie. They are all dog lovers! Aida and Fred loved chocolate labs. They had four on their lifetime, all named Dutch! They also loved the fish in their Koi Pond, the raccoons in the neighborhood, and just about every creature.
Aida was an exceptional cook who hosted feasts with international cuisine. She was often found in front of her 8 burner stove with lists of food she plans to prepare keeping her on track. Half of her cookbooks are in Dutch! She made a mixture of Dutch dishes, Persian dishes, American dishes and even Indoneasian. Dinner at Aida's was a feast where your belly is full and so is a to go container! The ultimate hostess with all the skills!
In true Aida fashion, a feast will feed her friends! This time her Persian friends, Mari and Fati will make a lot of the food along with the other friends in the Persian community. Her best friends and neighbors, Marilee, Kaylee, and Bella are preparing additional food as are Tom, Trish and Natalie. Long time family friends Craig and Nick are also a part of the party preparation. There is no better way to honor the life of a remarkable woman than with a feast and friends!
This celebration of Aida's life will take place at her home in Lakewood on August 16 at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the organization of your choice.
