Big Mama's obituary
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing away of Alkonie "Big Mama" Douglas on the 5th of April, 2024. Alkonie, who was born on the 13th of July, 1989, preferred to be called by her given name, but was affectionately known as Big Mama.
Alkonie was a beloved mother, sister, and daughter. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through her surviving family; her sisters, LaRonica Douglas, and her sons, Joseph and Marvin Douglas. She was the light of the household for her mother, Linda Green. Alkonie was predeceased by her father, Leroy Green.
Big Mama was a proud alumnus of McKinley High School on East McKinley Street, Baton Rouge, LA, having graduated in 2007. She held her school memories close to her heart and often recalled her time there with immense fondness.
Anyone who knew Alkonie knew of her love for food. She would often joke that anything edible was her favorite dish. Root Beer was her drink of choice, the sweetness of which, many would say, reflected her personality. Her love for Gospel Music was unparalleled. She found solace in the serene melodies and would often hum along, filling the room with her gentle energy.
Big Mama was an avid fan of crime documentaries, often spending her evenings engrossed in late-night reruns. She was a formidable Monopoly player, her love for the game only surpassed by her love for her family. she cherished her quality time with them the most. Her recreational activities were always centered around her family and she loved spending time with them, making each moment count.
Alkonie was a peaceful soul, her preference for vacation spots being 'anywhere peaceful'. Her favorite colors were red, gold, and black, that brightly reflected her vibrant, warm, and strong personality.
Alkonie "Big Mama" Douglas will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished and she will live on forever in our hearts.
