Alfredo's obituary

Alfredo (Fred) Compañero Damaso, 77, 4359 Pepperwood Ave. Long Beach, CA, died Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2:30PM in Kaiser Hospital in Harbor City, CA from cancer.

He was born in August 14, 1943 in Zambales, Philippines to Severino Novilla Damaso and Jaunita Compañero Damaso. He arrived by Navy ship in San Francisco Bay on June 8, 1959 (16 years-old) with his father. He was a retired welder fitter and life-long Long Beach, California area resident. An avid musician who sang and played piano, keyboard and guitar, he also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and movie-watching.

With a love for music, he played in different bands, the first one being "The Fortune Kookies," and all throughout his life meeting life-long friends and playing music with his family and at gatherings.

At 27, he started working as a ship welder for various companies in Long Beach, CA, such as Todd's Shipyard, Southwest Marine Shipyard and Long Beach Naval Shipyard.

He married Iluminada Rumbaoa Damaso on November 30, 1974 in Metro Manila, Philippines and she survives.

Also surviving are: two sons David Rumbaoa Damaso and Dominick Dale Damaso; one daughter and son-in law Fremyn Lyndie Jancik and Elisha William Jancik; four sisters, Othonia Damaso Abena, Ofelia Damaso Kaspar, Emilda Damaso Prigatano and Layda Damaso Arthur; and one grandson (due for birth September 30, 2021).

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Catherine Malaya Jancik.

Viewing is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Monday July 19, 2021 at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA. The funeral will take place on Tuesday July 20, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. in the Patriot Chapel building located in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA which will begin with a church service, then eulogy and tribute followed by internment. After the internment, a dinner reception will be held at East Buffet Restaurant in Hawaiian Gardens, CA.

Alfredo's death was unexpected, and his family doesn't have the funds needed to pay for his funeral. Anything donated will be used to offset funeral costs. His family would like to give thanks to everyone in advance for your support.
