Alfy's obituary
On April 6, 2025 the world lost one of the most interesting characters to ever walk the earth.
Alfred Gallagher, Jr. — otherwise known by Alfy, Alfonzo, PawPaw, and “StickMan”, all names that are far more fitting for the personality that was Alfy Gallagher.
At the ripe young age of 72, Alfy departed this world — but not before living a life full of interesting tales longer than the Mississippi River.
Born & raised in Monroe, LA — Alfy was the eldest of five children born to Alfred “Big Al” Gallagher, Sr. and Mary Agnes “Maggie” Sewell.
A pilot by trade, Alfy spent the majority of his adult life hunting, spoiling his chocolate labs, whittling limbs into the best walking-sticks money couldn’t buy, spending time with friends and family, and generally raising Cain in any direction he could.
A man of countless phrases, there is one that stands out as a constant.
“Don’t like no kids! Don’t want no kids! Don’t like nobody that’s got no kids!”
As such, he leaves behind a niece and several nephews whom he loved and who loved him dearly — but, true to his word, had no children of his own.
Alfy is preceded in death by his grandparents — Michael Vincent Gallagher, Sr., Gertrude Griffin Gallagher, Dr. Frank P. Rizzo, Sr. and Gussie Zagone Rizzo, father Alfred Gallagher Sr. and Uncle Dr. Buddy Rizzo and Aunt Joanne Rizzo Smith.
Three of his siblings also beat him in life’s final footrace — Marilyn Lovett, Christopher Gallagher Sr., and Susan Gallagher.
He is survived behind his mom, Mary Agnes Sewell, stepfather Ralph Lee Sewell, brother Patrick Gallagher Sr., two ex-wives (who could probably write best-selling novels), aforementioned niece and nephews, and a long list of cousins, friends, & acquaintances.
The family invites everyone who knew and experienced Alfy to raise a toast at their earliest convenience — preferably with live music playing in the background.
