I feel lucky to have had my dad for as long as I did. When I was younger, I always remember him as being an easy going guy, always slow to anger. He loved working outside, whether it was gardening or using a leaf blower. He also loved to relax and watch a good TV show or take a nap.
I always felt close to my dad but felt especially close to him in his final years. While it was a lot of work taking care of him, it was also very emotionally rewarding. His smile and blue eyes could light up a room. He liked to hold hands whether it was at home or in Dunkin' Donuts. For 50 years I'd forgotten how nice dad hugs were but made up for it with a few thousand hugs in his last years. My dad always had a good sense of humor right up to his final days.
I miss him so much.
