Alex's obituary
Alexander “Alex” Stevens Newell, 38, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on July 17, 2025. Born in Denver and raised in Castle Rock, Alex was a proud Coloradoan whose presence lit up every room—and trailhead—he entered.
Alex built a distinguished career in the oil, gas, and energy industries, working as a Landman for over 15 years. He earned his Certified Professional Landman (CPL) designation in 2017 and brought unmatched integrity and passion to his work. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 2005, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2009, and completed the Energy Land Management certificate program at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business in 2012.
Beyond his career, Alex lived life with heart and adventure. He was most at home in the mountains—skiing, hiking, or patrolling the slopes as a ski patroller at Winter Park. He was always up for a round of golf or disc golf and was a devoted fan of all Colorado sports teams, especially the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, and Avalanche. His love for sports extended across oceans and states—he fiercely supported Newcastle United and Clemson University football.
He is survived by his wife, Jannette; his parents, Kathy and Steve Newell; his sister, Hillary Newell; and an extraordinary circle of lifelong friends—Garrett, Ian, Jordan, Brian, Zac, Casey, and Jack—who were more like brothers than buddies.
Alex will be remembered for his sharp wit, steady strength, boundless loyalty, and the joy he brought to every moment. He lived fully and gave wholly—to his work, to the people he loved, and to every powder day and playoff game that came his way.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary in honor of Alex and Elwood, celebrating the love and companionship they shared.
