Alexander Charles Lawhon III Obituary
Alexander Charles Lawhon III, age 82, of Maryville, Tennessee—known to many simply as “Alex”—passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born on September 21, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, Alexander lived a life marked by service, ingenuity, and dedication to his family. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, including time stationed in Greenland. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career with Delco Electronics, where his work contributed to patented innovations before his retirement.
Alex was a man of quiet strength, sharp intellect, and enduring commitment to those he loved. He was always quick-witted and was always prepared for a joke to make you laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and joins in heaven his son-in-law, Andrew Gordon, along with other beloved family members who welcomed him into eternal rest.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Charlsie “Dot” (née Daugherty) Jones Lawhon; his children, Tracy Lawhon and Charles “Chuck” Lawhon; and his stepchildren, Karla (Todd) Penley and Saundra Dee (née Jones) Gordon.
He is also survived by his cherished step-grandchildren, Kyran Jones, Kaleb Penley, Kaden Penley, Kierstin Penley, Taylor Gordon, and Tristin Gordon; grandchildren and great-grandchildren including; Knox Penley (Kaleb), Kamdyn Parker (Kaleb), Maddie, and Braylyn and Bristol Thomas, and Kolter Thomas (Kierstin) and He further leaves behind his extended East Tennessee family and loved ones who will always remember his laughter.
Family will be gathering at their home in Maryville, Tennessee this week in remembrance of his life with a family ceremony following.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a cancer charity of your choice, honoring those taken too soon.
