Al's obituary
Alexander "Al" Anthony Galiano, 80 years old, born October 5, 1944, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025. Al was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His heart was as big as his personality, always welcoming everyone into his home and uplifting anyone around him with his long and humorous stories from work, life, and his many experiences.
Al is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Louise Galiano (Schwark) ; his daughters, Michelle Scott and Melissa Balk; his sons-in-law, Daniel Scott and Christopher Balk; his grandchildren Bradley Balk, Annika Balk, and Carolyn Balk; and his brother, Donald Galiano. He is predeceased by his parents, Rocco and Carmela "Connie" Galiano.
Beyond his family, Al was a cherished member of his community. He was previously an active member of the International Association of Lions Clubs in Holbrook, NY and held a third degree membership at The Knights of Columbus. Al had a heart for service, constantly extending help to those in need and contributing to his community in meaningful ways. Al also served in the US Army from 1963-1965, stationed in Juneau, Alaska as a weather observer and survived the infamous 1964 Alaska earthquake. Professionally, Al left a lasting legacy. After retiring from the LIRR, he established a thriving commercial and residential electrical repair business in Las Vegas, NV, "The Electric Doctor". This venture was a significant accomplishment and a testament to Al's industrious spirit and dedication to his work.
Al's selflessness, hard work, lasting love for his family, and continuous acts of kindness are the characteristics that will forever define his legacy. The way he lived his life and touched the lives of others will serve as a continuous source of inspiration for all who had the privilege to know him.
