Alex Luis Nieves, affectionately known as "Papo", was born December 30, 1989, to Alejandro (Alex) and Lera Nieves in Daytona Beach, Florida. Papo attended grade schools in Volusia County and ultimately graduated from Pine Ridge High School in 2008. Papo played football and basketball for many local teams and taught his cousins, nephews, and son the traditional skills. Papo's ultimate goal was to get a welding degree and follow in his father's footsteps as a hardworking family man. Papo was the proud father of two children, Nena Rose and Alex Luis Jr. "Papito" and was awaiting his third child, Amias Alex Luis. Papo loved spending time with family and made them his closest friends. Papo was preceded in death by his father, Alejandro (Alex) Nieves (2017), grandfather Clarence Mitchell (2006), cousin Shivonne "Sissy" Mitchell (2013), cousin Kristina Rodriguez (2013), and cousin/best friend Michael Gould Jr (2020). Papo leaves to welcome him back from resurrection: a devoted, loving mother Lera Nieves, maternal grandmother Willie Mae Mitchell, paternal grandmother Josefina Benitez; children: Nena Rose, Alex Luis Jr. "Papito"; three sisters: Alycia (Davonn) Nieves, Alexia (Vernon) Wallace, Lettisha Nieves; nieces and nephews: Naijha Nieves, Lynai Sherman, Naiym Sherman, Aiyana Crawford, Shanaiya Nieves-Hawkins, Aaron (AJ) Crawford, Nai'lah Hawkins, Laelah Mims; great-nieces/nephew: Sanaii, Jonah and Novah as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
