Alberto's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alberto Rodriguez, a man of intellect, culture, and wit, born on March 11, 1951, who departed us on August 17, 2025. His legacy of intellectual pursuits and remarkable contributions to literature and scholarly research will be greatly remembered.

Alberto left behind his son Eduardo, daughter Elisa, who will forever cherish their father's memory. He is survived by his brother Eduardo. Alberto was a connoisseur of good food and drink, with a palate appreciating everything from authentic Chinese and Mexican dishes, various types of seafood, to a classic filet mignon. He enjoyed a good stout beer, a glass of red wine, or a nice mezcal.

His intellectual prowess extended to his love for literature, with Don Quixote being one of his favourite books. His passion for the written word was mirrored in his music preference, as he reveled in the compositions of Beethoven, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, and most Classical or Baroque music. His sense of humour was displayed in his love for TV shows like Mind Your Language, the Andy Griffith Show, the IT Crowd, and the Simpsons.

Alberto was a fan of the cinema, with Midnight Cowboy, Akira Kurosawa films, The Graduate, and Battleship Potemkin being few of his favourites. He had an eye for art, counting Picasso among his favourites, and an enthusiasm for sports, rooting for Real Betis. His strategic mind was often engaged in games like Chess and Backgammon.

Alberto's free time was often spent reading, writing, listening to music, and sharing his thoughts and ideas. He remained active by playing tennis in his youth and he often frequented local spots for meals with friends and family.

Known for being stubborn, witty, and highly intelligent, some of Alberto's greatest accomplishments included obtaining his Ph.D., getting published numerous times, and making significant contributions to the research and analysis of Don Quixote. Today, as we mourn his loss, we celebrate his rich life, legacy, and the multitude of ways he touched and improved our lives through his unwavering dedication to intellectual pursuits, culture, and wit.
