Alberta's obituary
RENO - Alberta Jean Umscheid Watson
August 21, 1938 – April 18, 2026
Alberta Jean Umscheid Watson peacefully passed away on April 18, 2026, with family by her side. She was born in Middletown, Connecticut to Elinor Miller and Al Digiandomenico on August 21, 1938. Her parents traveled to Reno, Nevada to acquire a divorce when she was young. A few years later Elinor married Walter Umscheid. Alberta was blessed with two wonderful and loving fathers. Her mother was active with the church and was a regular presence in her life.
Alberta made Reno her home, attended Reno High and was a Huskiette. She went to college at UNR and joined the Tri Delta Sorority serving as Treasurer. She married and had five children. She ended up raising her children on her own and her driving goal was to ensure they were loved and had great lives. The family spent summers boating, camping, and water skiing. Winters were filled with vacations to California to see family, and of course many trips over the years to her very favorite place of all Disneyland. She made sure sports were a priority and volunteered at every activity to make sure all five children could participate. Every Halloween she handmade costumes for all five kids, even making it in the Reno Gazette Journal one year and continued to make costumes for grandchildren.
Alberta surrounded her kids with strong role models: Rick & Alfred Umscheid, Tom & June Howe, and her fathers both strong and loving.
Alberta served in PTA and became PTA president at Veterans Elementary School. She was room mother for many years. She not only was a mother but also had several fulltime careers. She worked as an accountant & bookkeeper at Umscheid Accounting. She also worked at the City of Reno Planning Dept for many years.
As time went by, she became a grandmother and great grandmother, giving herself and her never-ending love to her growing family.
She was a selfless, giving, & loving person. She gave herself fully to everybody and everything she did. To be loved by her was like no other love – it was wonderfully magical. She made every moment magical, just with her little smile. She was present for all special days in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s lives.
Her home was the heartbeat of the neighborhood, where all the kids hung out and played. They all felt welcome and free to just be. As the kids grew, she welcomed their friends and it was not uncommon to have 2–3 just stay over for days at a time because they loved her and being in such a happy place. To many, she was simply “Mom.”
She leaves behind her children: Elizabeth, Christina, Melvin, Kenneth, and Taunya (Don).
Grandchildren: Rockey 45, Stephanie 45, Taunya Jean 43, Cesario 41, Kaylee 34 (Nick 36), Donny 31 (Natalie 30), Kenadee 29, Brandon 28, Kendall 26, Kazen 17.
Great grandchildren: Winter 27, Parisa 23, Luis 20, Izabella 20, Javier 18, Giovanna 17, Angel 17, Jerrick 16, Katie 12, Nyjah 11, Danny 11, Mariah 10, Kaiya 6, Stetson 6, Bella Grace 1.
Her brothers Rick (Debbie) Umscheid, Alfred (Elda) Umscheid, and Peter (Pam) Mason.
She is pre-deceased by her parents Elinor and Walter Umscheid and Al and Harriet DiGiandomenco, her sister June (Tom) Howe, and brother Skip DiGiandomenico.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the medical teams at Renown, Hometown Health, and Hospice for their compassionate care.
She has lived as a god serving woman and we can take comfort in knowing that what lies before her is not something to fear but something filled with peace, love, and the presence of God.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date that will be posted on her memorial site. Please share your memories to https://everloved.com/life-of…
In honoring Alberta’s memory, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of God, likely planning the most magical gathering of all.
