Alan's obituary

Alan Jon Martell, 73, of Knoxville, TN passed away on February 19, 2021. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Alan was born and raised in Pinehurst, MA where he was the youngest of 12 children. He married the love of his life, Dawn, on August 23, 1975 and raised three children in Tewksbury, MA. The family moved to Merritt Island, FL in 1989. Alan retired from Cumberland Farms in 2013, and shortly thereafter moved to Knoxville, TN to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Alan was predeceased by his parents, Harry, Sr. and Grace Martell, brothers Harry, Jr. and Ronnie Martell, sisters Barbara Young and Rosalie Plaag, and granddaughter Hannah Freitag. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dawn E. Martell and their 3 children, Jeff Freitag (Shanna) of Crossville, TN, Matt Freitag and Angie Freitag of Hokes Bluff, AL, and Megan Martell Fee (Jason) of Knoxville TN; 9 grandchildren, Quinn, Keaton, Reagan, Jackson, Harrison, Olivia, Grayson, Emerson, and Bennett; 3 brothers, Kenny, Billy, and Fred Martell; 4 sisters, Grace Calileo, Joan Lesnett, Dorothy Barry, and Marilyn Futch.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, May 29 anytime between 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. EST at the home of Jeff & Shanna Freitag, 83 Cedar Ridge Lane, Crossville, TN 38555.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation in memory of Alan Jon Martell.
