Alan was a good ham radio friend from his time in WA and mine in San Diego, and then with him in AZ and me now in OR. Always a first class Morse Code operator, he could send and receive Morse at high speeds, but was always a gentleman; happy to slow down for those of us who couldn't copy fast speeds. We had some great chats over the years, and we were always happy to hear from each other. I'm so sorry to read he is gone; I'll always remember him. Very 73, my good friend!! My condolences to his family.
Alan was a good friend in ham radio as well as outside it. We shared a love of Scotch and spent many hours solving the problems of the world over a new single malt. I'll miss him on many levels.

God bless you Alan.  I am so sorry that i did not have the opportunity to spend more tuime with you and the rest of your family over the years. Your were a great person.  People like you are very rare and authentic.
I loved visiting my aunt Arlene's house with our family as a child.  We traveled by car from NYC to Rochester.  I really and especially  enjoyed visiting my cousin Alan on these trips.  He was a true role model to me.

I was moonlighting doing telephony work after hours for the IT Department and was offered a job by the company that maintained the City's new phone system that I helped install the year before. Since it was a conflict of interest, I told my supervisor, Len Goodisman, that I couldn't work for him any longer.
He said, "Give me a week before you accept that new job". During that time, Len went to Alan and asked if he could provide the budget to hire me since Len wouldn't have the funds until 1987. Alan had some "tasks" for me in mind and gladly provided the funds and I was offered the job!
So without Alan, I wouldn't have been offered the job at the best City in the State, in my mind, and have had a great career for the past 36 years!

And yes, I did a LOT of work for Alan for many years in support of the Eastside PSAP!
Alan was nationally known as an outstanding ham radio operator.   I met Alan years ago on the air and we got together quite a few times in Redmond and in Tucson.  Terrific loss.  He will be remembered for his kindness.  John Cross     My ham radio call was W7SOM but is now NF7N
Alan and I ended up at various meetings around the country. We were both interoperability coordinators for our respective states. He was Washington, I was Alaska. He befriended me and always was upbeat and happy. We ended up in San Diego, Universal 'Studios, Florida, Chicago, and Niagra Falls to name a few. I enjoyed following him and his cat on Facebook over the years. He will be missed.
