Alan's obituary

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Alan Jeffrey Kaylor went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. His earthly body was broken, but today he is whole, healed, and rejoicing in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Alan was born on January 9, 1962, to Laura and Loren Kaylor in Kansas City, Kansas, and was raised in Arvada, Colorado. From a young age, Alan was full of energy, determination, and leadership. He attended Arvada West High School, where he played football, ran track, played trumpet in the band, and—most importantly—met the girl who would become his forever love, Gail.

Alan and Gail built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and deep love for family. Together they raised three children—Kelsey, Shelby, and Caden—who were the greatest pride and joy of Alan’s life. Above every title or accomplishment, Alan was first and always a devoted husband and father. Providing for and caring for his family was his highest calling, and he did so with unwavering commitment and quiet strength.

Alan had a servant’s heart and a deep love for young people, which shaped much of his life’s work. Whether coaching, teaching, or leading schools, Alan always said, “I have to do what is best for kids,” and he lived that out daily. He had a rare ability to make people feel seen and valued, no matter who they were. Students knew he cared, staff felt supported, and families trusted his heart. He believed accountability and grace could coexist, and somehow, he had a way of holding students to high standards while leaving them feeling respected and loved.

Those who knew Alan well knew his sharp wit and playful sarcasm. If he teased you, it meant you mattered to him. He had an incredible memory and an insatiable curiosity, constantly learning and refining his craft. He rarely wrote anything down—his calendar lived in his head—and he carried himself with confidence, discipline, and integrity.

Alan was rarely still. He loved working with his hands—building, fixing, remodeling—and he thrived on competition, especially in the gym or on the racquetball court. It was during a racquetball game in 2021 that Alan first noticed something wasn’t right. What began as tripping slowly led to answers no family ever wants to hear. In February of 2023, Alan was diagnosed with ALS.

Alan faced his diagnosis with courage, faith, and resolve. Determined to fight for as long as possible, he immersed himself in research and participated in clinical trials, all while continuing to work and live life fully. Though ALS took his mobility, it never touched his mind, his leadership, or his love for others. With his sharp intellect and steady presence, Alan continued to lead, encourage, and invest in people for as long as he was able.

Gail and the family are forever grateful to Debra Smith and Judy Callaway for their extraordinary love, care, and support during this journey. Their presence made it possible for Alan to continue doing what he loved for as long as he could, and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Alan leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, service, and love. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, led humbly, and lived fully. He will be profoundly missed, but his impact will continue to be felt in the lives of his family, the countless students he loved, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Alan is survived by his wife, Gail; his children, Kelsey (Tom) Fow, Shelby (Nick) Sanich, and Caden; his beloved grandchildren, Maverick, Blakely, Decker, Evvie, Beckett, Callan, and Tali; and his sister, Pam (Brian) Barngrover, along with many extended family members who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Laura Kaylor.
