Alan's obituary
Born in Kimberley, to Ritchie and Hazell Spencer, Alan lived a life that was full of family, faith, adventure and travel.
Alan "Spanner" Spencer grew up in Johannesburg, and his first role of responsibility was as big brother to Sandy and Wendy. He attended Cyrildene Primary School, graduated from Queens High, briefly studied veterinary science before setting his sights and ambitions on the skies - excelling as an international commercial pilot and training instructor with SAA. Alan married Joan and raised 2 daughters, Michelle and Kim, in Bedfordview before an opportunity with Singapore Airlines took the family to Singapore for 8 years.
On returning to South Africa, Alan lived in Knysna, Gonubie and Greyton. In his retirement years he appreciated time on the ground instead of the air. Years with his Mom in Gonubie were extra precious and he found special moments in the bush "looking elephants in the eye", and the beaches and mountains of our beautiful country.
Son, Brother, Friend, Neighbourhood Prankster, Sailor, Husband, Father, Uncle, Church Elder, Dog Dad, Captain, Entrepreneur, Karate Black Belt, Runner, Hiker, Handyman, Bird lover, Gardener - Alan wore many hats and did so with a glint in his eye, chuckle, sense of practicality and consideration for others.
May he rest in peace and be united with the God that he believed in with every fiber of his soul.
