Alan's obituary
Alan Eugene Duplex, a man of unwavering spirit and boundless adventure, left this
world on January 23, 2025. Born on September 28, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, he was
the beloved son of Harry and Connie Duplex, and the cherished oldest brother to his
siblings: Karen, Jeanette, Ron, and Ken.
Anyone who knew Alan knows he was a strong-willed and independent man. If you
ask his dad what kind of kid he was, he’d tell you he was stubborn (with an ever so
slight smirk), and his mom would have answered that question by sharing a story.
While getting ready for school one morning in Park Forest, Alan informed his mom he
would be walking to school alone; he was a man now and could walk himself the
two blocks it took to get to kindergarten alone. It’s unclear how long it took him to
persuade his mom, but that morning he walked out that door alone. A short time
later, there was a knock at the door. It was a police officer wanting to know if the
soaking wet kid standing next to him belonged to her. Alan had managed to navigate
his way right into a big puddle. Needless to say, from a young age, Alan exhibited a
spirit of adventure that would define his life.
The family later relocated to California, where his passion for the outdoors
flourished. Alan found joy in various activities, including; hang gliding, water skiing,
hiking, riding ATVs, cruising on his Harley, and off-roading in his Jeep. Music also
played a significant role in Alan's life; he was an accomplished drummer who played
in a band before ultimately settling down in 1972 and marrying Sheree Hudson.
Together, they raised three children: Michelle, Erica, and Jared. Alan was a dedicated
provider for his family, working hard to ensure their happiness and well-being.
Michelle recalls how her dad taught his children that nothing in life is free; if you want
something, you’ve got to work hard for it.
Alan's legacy extends beyond his family, as he was a beloved member of his
community, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh. His daughter Erica
fondly recalls, "Dad's adventurous spirit and zest for life were unmatched. He taught
us to embrace every moment with courage and joy."
He is survived by his six adoring grandchildren: Jeffrey, Kristen, Kaydence, Brooke,
Brody, and Casen; who were the light of his life. We find comfort knowing he is once
again reunited with his beloved mother, Connie Duplex, in heaven. Alan will be
deeply missed by his family and friends, whose lives he touched with his laughter,
love, and adventurous spirit. His legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to family
will forever remain in our hearts.
In Loving Memory of
