Alan's obituary
Alan Arthur Johnson—known to many as “Big Al”, “Easy Al”, or “Al”—a devoted father,
beloved son, and cherished friend to many, passed away on March 17, 2026, at the age of
74.
Alan lived a life defined by determination, creativity, and an unwavering work ethic. He was
educated, driven, and hardworking, always striving to build, create, and provide — not just
for himself, but for those around him. His entrepreneurial spirit led him down many paths,
each shaped by his curiosity and love of learning.
After graduating from the University of Washington School of Law, Alan traveled extensively throughout foreign countries,
often going far beyond familiar paths and fully immersing himself in new cultures and
places. Later in life, he chose to settle down to start a family and to build something lasting
for them.
Alan remained a traveler at heart, embracing new experiences with enthusiasm. He
connected easily with people, forming friendships wherever he went and leaving lasting
impressions that stayed with others long after.
A passionate athlete and coach, Alan devoted much of his life to youth sports. He played
and coached baseball, softball, and basketball, sharing not only his knowledge of the game
but also his deep belief in teamwork, discipline, and connection. Through team sports, he
helped young people build lasting and meaningful relationships — with one another, and
with the parents and grandparents who stood beside them. In doing so, he fostered a wide
circle of community and care that extended far beyond the field or court, supporting his
own and others’ children.
He is survived by his son, Nathan (Kaelyn); his daughter, Alina (Cameron); his significant
other, Deanna; and those he supported and helped raise — Mick, Monica, Daniel, Andrew,
Derek, and Thomas — along with many others whose lives he touched and helped shape.
Alan shared deep and meaningful friendships with many.
Above all, Alan will be remembered for his strength of character, his creativity, and the way
he showed up for others. His legacy of perseverance, love, and connection will continue to
live on in all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held on June 17th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Seafarers
Memorial Park in Anacortes. Please join us in the celebration; refreshments and snacks will
be provided. Feel free to bring food. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and
pay their respects to his memory.
