Air Chief Marshal Sompoth Peaiyoung, a former Deputy Superintendent of the Royal Thai Air Force Academy passed away Sunday, January 3,2021 at the age of 61. He was receiving treatment for lung and liver cancer at the Air Force Hospital in Bangkok.

Air Chief Marshal Sompoth is survived by his wife, Assistant Professor Wing Commander Ngamlamai Peaiyoung, his family and friends.

Air Chief Marshal Sompoth was born on October 25, 1959. He was an alumnus of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School. After graduating from the Prep School, he received a full scholarship to study abroad in the United States after his freshman year at the academy. He chose Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont in Northfield for his undergraduate institution graduating with a double engineering degree. Air Chief Marshal Sompoth continued his education in the US receiving his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in New York.

He was commissioned in the Royal Thai Air Force and taught at the Academy throughout his career. He was also an Associate Professor at other academic institutions and participated in many studies. He was one super nice fella with positive friendly smile. Everybody just loved him! He will be deeply miss by his family, friends, students and all who knew him.

Air Chief Marshal Sompoth’s Chanting Funeral has been completed at Wat Prasrimahatat Woramahawihan Bangkok, Thailand by his family. His Cremation Ceremony will be held sometime in April due to the Covid19 situation. The actual time and date will be announced.
