Aida's obituary

Aida E. Ramos died peacefully in her home in San Lorenzo, La Paz on December 6 in IloIlo City at the age of 83 from natural causes. She was shrouded in love and peace during her final weeks, day and hours.

Aida is survived by her husband of 51 years, Winston C. Ramos and her three daughters Yvonne R. Gordon, Wenda R. Hunt, May Joy R. Canonigo, eight grandchildren, and many close family and friends.

Aida was born on December 25, 1939 in the small fishing village of Banate, Iloilo to Carlos Valagosa Espinosa and Clara Baconga Espinosa. She was the second youngest of 8 children. Her parents had limited resources but always prioritized family and education. After Aida graduated from college, she began teaching in a school in Cotabato City. It was here where she met Winston and eventually married and had three daughters. In 1978, the family moved to the United States with great hope and anticipation. Neighbors became friends and Aida began forming roots in Chicagoland. Aida proudly watched her daughters grow up, graduate, start their own families and giving her apos to love, care for and mentor. During her time in the states, Aida never forgot the rich love, sincere joy and simple pleasures of life back home in Iloilo. With determination and thoughtful planning, Aida and Winston were able to permanently move back home in December 2021.

Her children and grandchildren will always remember her as a kind, gentle, patient and loving Nanay/Lola who encouraged them to pursue their goals, find happiness and be honest. Aida cared for all of her grandchildren, making sure they always ate healthy and felt loved. She was generous, alway giving to others and never expected anything in return. She was compassionate, having empathy for those in need. She loved family deeply, she often called just simply to hear our voices. Aida was a devout follower of Christ and believed in building bridges, finding common ground, and loving thy neighbor.
