Agnes's obituary

We wish to announce that our mother, Agnes Marie Bofill, 91, of Huntington Beach, CA was joyfully called to her eternal home July 3rd, 2025. Agnes was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke.

Agnes was born on the family farm October 27th, 1933 to Raymond and Lucy Emmendorfer in New Lothrop, MI. She was the 11th of 13 children. After graduating from St. Michael’s School she moved to the big city and began working in a hospital. Soon after she met Ernest Bofill (recently discharged from the Air Force) on a blind date and after a 9 month courtship, they were married November 7th, 1953.

Agnes soon got pregnant and they had six children in 6½ years, 2 girls then a boy and then 2 girls again and the 2nd boy. Before their 1st child was born, Ernest, who came from a small family, didn’t want to show favoritism so they agreed to eliminate all the names in each of their families. Almost exactly 1 year after they were married they had their 1st child on November 11th, 1954 (1 day before her father’s birthday on Veteran’s Day) and named her Ramona Gail. From that point on, all the girls’ names would be named after a song, be 3 syllables and end in “na”. The boys would have unusual names as well. The 2nd child, a girl, C’Anna Denise was born December 8th, 1955. While pregnant with their 3rd child they moved from chilly Michigan to sunny California. Their 1st son, Kristopher Karson was born December 7th, 1956 (Pearl Harbor Day). Then they repeated the sequence and the 4th child (another girl), Madonna Louise was born December 6th, 1957. That’s right 3 kids born 1 day short of exactly 1 year apart. The 5th child and last girl, Elaina Noel was born January 19th, 1959. And the last child, the 2nd boy, Barney O’Neal was born June 17th, 1960.

In 1968, the family packed up and moved from the Los Angeles area to Huntington Beach. Agnes was the most selfless person, especially when it came to her children. Even though she worked fulltime while raising her children, she was fiercely dedicated to being a present mother. In order to ensure a constant parental presence to their young children, blue-collar workers Ernest worked days and Agnes worked graveyard shift (as a press operator for RCA making vinyl records). It was “All about Family” in the Bofill household. Family came 1st and was the single most important value instilled in all those around. The family was not limited to the eight Bofill’s, but included every childhood friend or teammate brought home as guests and extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, and co-workers. Ernest and Agnes insisted on sharing dinner every evening as a family because that is when their times at home overlapped. Many times, Agnes was feeding more than 8 at dinner time. There was always food for all. To this day, her children only know how to cook for a large family. Everything was done as a family unit including camping, supporting and attending the kids school activities and functions and excursions/outings. Agnes never raised her voice in anger and was patient and kind to all that she came into contact with. The hole left by her absence is felt by many generations. She taught all how to love and be loved and that is her legacy. She was a living testimony of the Proverbs 31 woman.

Agnes resided in her home in Huntington Beach for 53 years and in 2021 she moved in with her daughter, Ramona (also living in Huntington Beach). Agnes is now dancing and rejoicing in heaven with her husband (Ernest, passed in 2002) and daughter (Madonna, passed in 2021). Agnes is survived by her remaining 5 Children (Ramona, C’Anna, Kristopher, Elaina and Barney), 25 Grandchildren (Jacob, Rachel, Jeremy, Benjamin, Jesse, Trey, Shayne, Sarah, Matthew, Kristopher Jr, Samuel, Talitha, Seth, Gabriel, Levi, Nathan, Bethany, Nicholas, Shy, Patricia, Jody, Dean, Dominique, Bryce and Brent), and 24 Great Grandchildren (Natalee, Paislee, Kailee, Kody, Isaac, Josiah, Remington, Ezra, Elliott, Charley, Beau, Indiana, Hosana, Zion, Calista, Aliya, Nate Jr., Zachary, Gwendolyn, Luke, Jody, Lincoln, Bodi, Lena) with 2 on the way.

A ”Celebration of Life” will be held Sunday, August 10th, 2025 at Seaside Community Church, 21601 Surveyor Circle, Huntington Beach, CA 92646. Her service will be streamed live at Seasidehb.org.
