It’s taken me awhile to post because there are times I have to remind myself you are not here.
Ma, although we didn’t get the benefit of growing up through Halsey, Kerwin, Rehema and I have felt the love across the border! Our summers spent in New York with you are memories forever imprinted in our hearts and minds and your fierce love and attention over us was paramount. I remember not being allowed to go to Carnival on Eastern Parkway because “ these people in New York crazy you know, I have to make sure you all get back to Canada safely” 😆❤️.
Your fried chicken was my faves and I have yet to find anything else that comes close! I can still feel your hugs, see your smile and hear you say “Channeee” when you would call me over the phone.
The act of grieving is all the unexpressed love that we carry … I will grieve you forever my sweet Ma❤️❤️❤️

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.

Ma, there are no words to express how much you meant to me. You are not just a memory. It gives me great comfort knowing that you had a long life. To that end, I am glad you gave me a good foundation. A child without a good foundation cannot unlock its fullest potential. It is my hope that you are in heaven with your head held high among family (Uncle Gordon, your sister Aunt Eunice) friends (Ms. Archer, Ms. White, and the honorable Roy Brathwaite), and foes, knowing that while I am not perfect, I was a good return on your investment. Our trip to the United States, for a better opportunity, (not a better life, we were born in paradise and you gave me a childhood most children could only dream of while not allowing history to repeat itself) on my part, was NOT in vain~ Dr. K. DeShields.

My Auntie, was a lady with integrity and pride, proud but yet still humble. I grew very close to my Aunt over the past years and our relationship was not only one of a family nature but one that at any time I could go to her and relate any matter and impeccable advice would be given.
I remembered even down to her last moments Aunty was so particular in the way she carried herself, the wig, the powered face, the earrings, the necklace, very fancy
Aunty gone, but by no means forgotten, Rest in in Peace with your son, my cousin Gordon and your sister, my mother Eunice
Rest on Dear Aunty

Ma: you are missed. I’m glad you had a long life. You are gone but not forgotten! Say hello to uncle Gordon for me. Now, the two of you are together once again. Forever in my ❤️ Kay.
