Adelbert Thomas "Del" Tweedie, 92, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on January 06, 2023 after a life well lived.

Del was born on January 5, 1931 to Thelma and Harold Tweedie in Midland, Michigan. After graduating from University of Michigan, he went on to receive his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, then worked as a research chemist in the space industry for Aerojet in CA and GE Space Division in Valley Forge, PA from 1957 - 1989. In 1952, he met Sally Bersey, and they wed in 1953, going on to have 3 children, Katie, Sue and Ian.
Del was an avid wilderness explorer as well as helping to explore space as a rocket scientist. He worked on the chemical materials for various missions of the space race at the time, including the Gemini, Apollo and Voyager spacecraft. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family, building log cabins at Robertson Lake, Canada, and a log compound at Bear Mountain near Forksville, PA. In between were lots of hiking and canoeing trips. Del was also a passionate woodworker and could often be found creating rustic log furniture.
He attended Unitarian Universalist congregations wherever the family moved, but was a long-time member and especially active in the Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon, PA where he served as the construction representative after the church burned down. He was an active supporter of the causes he believed in, and served with Common Cause, the Democratic Party, and the School Board of theTredyffrin/Easttown School District, Wayne, PA. Del was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Laura.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sally. The rest of the surviving clan include his brother, Harry, Spokane, WA and sister Louanna, Seattle, WA; his three children, Katie Covey, Longmont, CO, Sue Sim, Davis, CA, and Ian Tweedie, Severna Park, MD/Abuja, Nigeria; his 7 grandchildren: Pete, Brett, Allen, Will, Jake, Michelle and Stu; and his 7 great-grandchildren: Felix, Leeda, Marlo, Zeffie, Evelyn, Genevieve and Esmeray.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Main Line Unitarian Church (www.mluc.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/) in honor of his beloved wife, Sally.
