Personal note from Constance Temple Holder

Ada was a "single mother" for most of her child rearing years. Her first husband: Robert Gleason McNulty (Robert Gleason MacNulty) died when he was 29 years old.( 05/02/1932). He died of "pleurisy" or "pneumonia". Ada had to supervise the selling of the home that Robert & she had in Spotsylvania, VA. Ada would tell us her story about how she had to leave with the 3 children to go to her mother-in-law's house in Rutherford, NJ. They all left by train. She had to get a job quickly to help with the money situation. She got a job at the Marine Midland bank in NYC as a secretary. She had graduated from Portland High School & from "The Gregg School of Shorthand & Typing for Secretaries" in Portland, ME. (While there, she "set a speed record" for typing). She was well equipped to be a secretary in the NYC Marine Midland Bank office. She met & later married her second husband, Charles Sheldon Pharis at that bank office. She died 03/20/1980 at the age of 78. She died at her daughter's home in Midland, Michigan. She is buried next to her 2nd husband, Charles Sheldon Pharis. The cemetery is: Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Westvale, NY. Ada, by the way, was one of the first young ladies that got her hair "bobbed" (cut short) in Portland, Maine. Burial: Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Westvale, Onondaga County, New York, USA.

The one with her first husband, Robert Gleason MacNulty, and her daughter, Roberta Ada MacNulty was taken in Maine in front of their home.
