How long have you worked at McLeod Mortuary? How did you first get into the profession?

I have been a part of the McLeod Care Team for 2 years. I have always wanted to be a part of the Funeral Industry and when I saw the opportunity to join a location that has served our community for nearly 100 years, I was eager to be a part of.

What is your job like? What are you responsible for in a typical week?

As a Family Service Counselor, my primary objective is to assist families in pre arranged funeral planning. Helping them to plan in advance a service that fits their individual wishes and their budget. I also help our team with ensuring that EVERY family we serve gets the care and attention that they deserve, so they can feel confident that their loved one is cared for and their final tribute is a memorable honor.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is after a pre arrangement, when you see that doing so really does illicit a sense of peace you didn't know you were missing. And the surprise that the pre planning process can be easy and positive, not scary. Making a Difficult Conversation, an Easier One!

What do you wish more people knew about funerals and cemeteries?

I wish that more people understood that the best time to plan is now. Pricing changes like everything else (lock in prices now) and when a family is faced with a loss, it can be a financial hardship, not to mention the uncertainty of "are we doing the right thing?" When you make your wishes known it allows your loved ones to grieve without the added pressure of making funeral choices. Cemetery is the same. This is where you will be visited on special days. Payment is due in full when one passes. Start making those payments today!

What was the most memorable burial that you've helped with?

I have been honored to be a part of many beautiful celebrations of life. I love the diversity of funeral celebrations. Each culture, religion, family has a special way to honor, memorialize and celebrate their loved ones. I am honored to get to be a part of all of them.

Do you have any thoughts or recommendations for people who are grieving?

Grief is a process. A long process. Take your time! Allow yourself to feel how you feel. Take advantage of the complimentary Compassion Helpline we offer for grief support.

Is there anything else that you'd like to share with our audience?

I am here for you. If you have questions, please ASK! It is a privilege that I get to do what I do every day for and with the families in community. Stop in anytime. My goal is to assist you the very best way possible and make your preplanning an easier conversation.
