Zak's obituary

Zakariah Latzka passed away unexpectedly in March 2025 in South Lake Tahoe, California. He was 45 years old.

Zak was a beloved friend, son, brother, uncle, business partner and creative spirit whose warmth, humor and intensity of presence left an imprint on everyone lucky enough to know him. As a co-owner and driving force behind Himmel Haus, Zak poured his heart into building not just a business, but a gathering place—one filled with laughter, music, food, and deep connection. Whether he was leading a team meeting, crafting the vibe for a packed evening at the Haus, or offering a quiet moment of support to a friend, Zak did everything with uncommon soul and sincerity.

Raised in Minnesota, Zak followed his sense of adventure to San Francisco, New York and ultimately to South Lake Tahoe.  Zak brought with him an open heart, sharp wit, and a gift for making people feel seen. He lived fully—imperfectly, beautifully, and with deep feeling. He was endlessly curious, fiercely loyal, and unafraid to be himself in a world that often rewards conformity. His absence is felt in every room he once lit up.

He is survived by his father Jim Mayer (Rochelle Gunn), mother Mary Kay Latzka (Rich Meaux), Grandma Mary Jacobs, sister Sophia Meaux, brothers George Mayer, Lucas Meaux, and Samuel Meaux, and his dog Peanut, along with a large extended family and countless friends and chosen family who carry his spirit forward, including his best friend David Graham-Armstrong and his girlfriend Sydney Drake.

He will be missed more than words can ever say.

Zak' memorial will be held at Himmel Haus May 4th, 2025.
