How do you summarize the life of a Lord Byron muse? Tim had the complexity of a 37 year old, single malt Highland Scotch; subtle notes of coconut milk and aged parchment with fresh ink from a recently penned haiku. Tim was a global citizen. Born in Japan and raised in the United States and abroad. He was a restless spirit with long legs and even seemingly longer arms. He loved learning and sharing what he knew with the world. It would seem he was always destined to be a coach and a teacher. Quiet, but always listening, like Siri or Alexa. He was full of trivial facts. Did you know dolphins can develop Alzheimer’s Disease? Always quick to recommend a book or lend a sympathetic ear, but turn away for just a moment and he may have flittered on, very matter of factly, to where he wanted to be next. Tim set the terms of his existence and as much as I would selfishly love to hear his commentary on why chicken wing flats are superior to drums or the merits of serif lettering, I will instead have to relish in the moments we’ve shared over the years. Tim was surrounded by so many remarkable people throughout his life in various communities; teaching, rowing, BIPOC advocacy, social justice, D&D and his trivia night teams just to name few. I hope you all might feel compelled to share your stories so his narrative can live on, to borrow a line from the late singer, Prince, “in the afterworld. A world of never ending happiness. You can always see the sun, day or night.” Namaste.
