This is not about how we met but about a divine coincidence the day he died. Today is August 3, 2021 and I just a few minutes ago learned of his death. I was stunned when I saw he died on the same day, June 8, 2021, some random road rager chose my car to run off the freeway. I was blind-sided and with no warning found myself having to engage in all kinds of vehicular tactical maneuvers I had no training in or knowledge of. After being blocked, circled, then followed I made it to a Costco station and was able to find help. Despite them waiting for me I somehow timed it perfectly and was able to take an alternate route off the Costco property and melt into traffic and escape. Every time I tell the story I'm always amazed at the level of driving expertise my escape demanded and that I actually outmaneuvered them while in shock from the swiftness of the attack. I got away without as much as a scratch on me or my car. Given our relationship years ago and the fact we kept in touch through the years, I have no doubt Bob stopped long enough on his final journey home to help me get home to my special needs daughter. Until I can thank him myself, I will ask Mother Mary to send him my love and gratitude.

Gary Christensen: Bob was my friend for almost 50 years, running, biking, skiing, eating and drinking. One of Bob's most enjoyable personal traits was that whenever we walked into a bar or restaurant, he seemed to know the owners and waitresses, especially the waitresses. This irrepressible behavior was always a joy to observe and experience. I don't know how he did it, but did it he did. One running experience stands out. We were running the Butte to Butte together, and halfway along we came up behind too pretty, younger women. Bob says, "This is nice, let's follow them to the end." I said, "Alright". We came to the finish and Bob followed the two women and starting a very friendly conversation with one of them. His agenda was obvious. Bob was not shy and could talk it up with anybody. By looking at Bob I could tell he thought he was making great progress. But just then a tall handsome guy walked up and said to the pretty blonde, "Hi , honey, how did it go?" She says, "Bob, this is my husband!" I will never forget the look on Bob's face, it was an instant change, a tragic expression of loss. But no matter, Bob always soldiered on, there was always tomorrow. I really miss Bob, he was a treasure to know and be friends with.
One of my special memories of Bob is going to the 5th street market to get a cup of coffee. I would get a cup,
and then wander around the seating area upstairs. And on a good many occasions hear someone say " hey
Mike", and there would be Bob. I would join him and we would B.S. some. He always had some stories, and
at some point he would inevitably break into a laugh.

Those were good times, still miss those days. He was a good guy.
So terribly sorry to hear of Bob's passing. My deepest condolences to the family. He talked about all of you with much pride and love. I've had many encounters with Bob thru the Oregon Track Club Masters. His smile lit up a room. I have such fond memories of many a time laughing it up with Bob. He had such a joy for life. So fortunate to have crossed paths with such a dear human being. The world is going to miss you, Bob.
