Robert "Bob"'s obituary
Bob grew up in the Upper Ojai community in California souping up his Model-T hotrod and various motorcycles, and cruising the coastal roads of Southern California with the top down on his Porsche Roadster. In his 20s he moved with his new family (sans Roadster) to South Dakota and then Arizona where he worked as a minuteman missile inspector. Afterwards he returned to Los Angeles where he specialized in installing and servicing Electron Micoprobes, an instrument that measures the atomic composition of a sample. He often travelled around the country for his work, repairing these machines in mints, dental schools, cement factories, etc. Tired of being on the road, Bob moved to Eugene with his family in 1972 to take a position at the University of Oregon Geology Department. There he ran their Miroprobe and taught grad students how to use it.
In Eugene (Track Town USA), Bob became an avid runner, active in the 20-30 Club, and the Oregon Track Club. Eugene was his final home, where he honed his skills at being late--no matter how much ahead of time you told him to be there! And for years he continued to collect various vehicles and tinker with them. Bob also enjoyed road biking and participated in several Cycle Oregon trips. He joined 4 of his 5 kids on the STP (Seattle to Portland) ride in 2010. Bob had a trip of a life-time cycling trip when he joined his daughter and son-in-law on a 5 day road bike ride thru Italy in 2015. He enjoyed mountain climbing and scaled most of the Oregon cascades. Bob instilled his love of the outdoors and an active lifestyle in all his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother Lance Fletcher, Jr (Cherlyn), his five children and their spouses, Jeff (Christine Ritschel), Noel (Mary), Lance (Laura), Lori Fletcher (Steve Sickler, former husband Tim Lighty) and Alice Zeissler (PauL Wyrzykowski), 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many beloved close friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Alice “Suzie” Baldwin. Bob was much loved and will be dearly missed.
