Visiting Joe his 1st year at UNLV — with Jessica Bernard
“I am so  saddened to hear of the passing of my former teammate, an amazing guy and my rebel brother. Though the years have kept us apart, the bond we shared remains. He was one of a kind, full of energy and spirit, and I know he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.  My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. He will truly be missed, but his memory and the moments we shared will always stay with me.” We had so many laughs and amazing moments that I will never forget and keep me going! He was my Rebel brother!!!

We are devastated and deeply saddened to hear of Joe's passing.  A wonderful vibrant young man with so much life ahead gone way too soon. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family, friends, and all his loved ones. He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved him.

Love and Condolences from the Gutierrez Family, Paul, Leslie, Matt, and Anthony.

My condolences to Joe’s family and friends. I was Joe’s hairstylist for the past 5 years. Exactly every 3 weeks he would see me for his haircut. He was such a sweet and happy person. I was always glad to see him in my chair and chat about what was going on in his daily life. I’m glad I was able to know him, he was a genuine kind soul.

Rest in peace, Joe.

Joe we met as strangers that became teammates that turned into brothers and we became forever family. I never really told you but I looked up to up as a player and as a person. You played the game so fearless and left everything on the Field and off the field you were the best friend someone can ask for. You made everyone around out so happy. You would drop what you’re doing no matter what to be there for anyone. You were such a joy to be around and your smile would light up the room. I still can’t believe you’re gone but you always be apart of my life for everything you have done for me. I’ve told my daughter so much about you that one day she can find someone just like you. My players I tell them to play the way 45 plays FEARLESS! Thank you brotha for everything you have done for me. I’ll never forget you and how much you mean to me. I can still hear you saying Woodrow my guy ! Until we meet again 45 “DBLock” for life !

Love ya

Jon, sincerely thinking about you in your time of great loss. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Much Love, Steve & Maryanne Nelle
As a child, Joe was part of the fabric of our lives and was best friends with my son. He had the code to enter our home, was always invited for supper, and knew he was considered family. I drove him to school with my boys, and the friendship he forged with my son has lasted since their childhoods. Joe always had a twinkle in his eye and an easy smile. He loved animals, especially dogs. Reading so many folks’ memories and enjoying the photos, I can see how great Joe was as an adult. Loved by so many people. I am heartbroken for Tina, Jon, Jordan, Jessica, and everyone who has, and will continue, to love Joe.

Joe celebrating at our weddin…
Malibu, CA, USA
Joe celebrating at our wedding reception. He helped golf cart countless guests from the ceremony to the after party and then selflessly made sure everyone around him had an incredible time! Joe was someone that put others before himself and his genuine nature is something we will always remember.

So sorry to hear of the tragic passing of Joe. I had the pleasure of getting to know Joe during his time at UNLV. He was a special guy, walked around with that twinkle in his eye and was above all, an outstanding leader and teammate to his fellow Rebels. Extremely intelligent, passionate, driven and unselfish. It was easy to realize from watching Joe go about his daily tasks, he was raised by good parents and of course correctly taught about football from Coach Ladouceur and the Spartan staff. Quick learner, motivated, excellent instincts and played fast. An excellent collegiate football student/athlete. A young person that any parent would love to call him - son!

Joe has left us far too soon, but rest assured he enjoyed life to its fullest. We are grateful to have been apart of Joe’s development in his formative years and will miss him tremendously. His Rebel Football Family is heartbroken, but know he was a treasure to all. May He Rest In Peace.
